A house built for everyone arriving at once
Most villas this size ask a family to choose: the couple who wants a king, the grandparents who want a ground-floor bath, the cousins who will share. Casa Allamanda doesn't. Five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and a sixth half bath off the living area mean nobody queues and nobody negotiates.
The living spaces open straight onto the pool terrace, so the day tends to organise itself: coffee under the cane ceiling, swimming before it gets hot, long lunches at the ten-seat table, and the evening that everyone remembers, when the sky goes navy and the garden lights come on.
The terrace is the real living room
A cane-and-timber ceiling, ceiling fans, and a table that seats ten, a few steps from the water. In Guanacaste the indoor rooms are where you sleep and cook; this is where the rest of the holiday happens.
The pool is heated, which matters more than people expect — in the dry season the mornings are cool enough that unheated water keeps children out until eleven.
Inside the gates of Hacienda Pinilla
Hacienda Pinilla is a 4,500-acre former cattle ranch on three miles of Pacific coast, now a gated community of tropical dry forest, trails and beaches. There is a manned gatehouse, a clinic on the property, and almost no traffic.
Guests use the beach club on Playa Avellanas for five dollars a person; the beach itself costs nothing. The par-72 Mike Young golf course, the tennis and pickleball courts, the riding stables and the trail network are all a few minutes from the door, and the JW Marriott's restaurants are open to you for dinner.
Yes, you can actually work from here
The house runs on a 1 Gbps fibre connection — the fastest tier available in the country, and quicker than most home offices in the States. Video calls hold. Large files move. There is air conditioning in every room, a desk-friendly table on the covered terrace, and a five-hour time difference from London, one or two from the US mainland depending on the season.
Several of our guests come for a month and work three days a week. Costa Rica's remote-worker visa makes stays of up to a year straightforward for many nationalities.

Beginner peaks and a reef point five minutes away, with instructors who teach children all morning. Lola's is on the same sand.
Volcanoes, waterfalls and hot springs
Rincón de la Vieja is two hours north — a volcano hike, a waterfall you can swim in, and mud baths, in one day.
Howler monkeys before breakfast
The dry forest around the house holds howlers, capuchins, iguanas and coatis. The estuary boat tour in Tamarindo is a gentle hour for small children.
Introductory rates while we fill the calendar
The house is newly finished and newly listed, and we've priced it accordingly until the calendar fills. There is no minimum stay at the moment. Booking direct is the best rate we offer.
